Bishop named President of the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges

Dr. Steve Bishop, President of Southwest Mississippi Community College, has recently been named the president of the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges (MACC).

Bishop, who is beginning his tenth year as president of SMCC, will serve a two-year term chairing and representing the MACC.

The MACC consists of the 15 Community College presidents from around the state. Mississippi has been consistently recognized as one of the best community college systems in the U.S.

Bishop began his career at Southwest Mississippi Community College as an instructor in 1992, Vice-President for Student Affairs in 2004, and became President in July 2011.  He is a 1988 graduate of Southwest Mississippi Junior College, earned a B.S. degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master’s of Arts from Southeastern Louisiana University.  He received his PhD in Higher Education Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1997.
