In the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak, today’s press briefing featured another subject as Mississippi was hit hard by severe weather on Easter Sunday.
Governor Tate Reeves was joined by Executive Director of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency Greg Michel and State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs.
With 11 fatalities and widespread damage, Governor Reeves and Director Michel expressed the severity of these storms and stated the additional damage assessments are underway.
As for the COVID-19 situation, the Governor said that Mississippi will soon reach its peak and that officials have planned for many different possible scenarios. He also noted that a decision on the remainder of the school year in Mississippi will be announced on Tuesday.

Dr. Dobbs discussed what is being done as they work to identify solutions to racial disparities in the number of COVID-19 cases and how the MSDH is continuing to work with private labs to get the most accurate data possible.
