The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 1,648 new cases of COVID-19.
Today’s report brings the state’s total number of cases up to 181,095. With the confirmation of 5 additional deaths, 4,204 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus.
While hospital data has not yet been updated in today’s report, overall hospitalizations remained at an all-item high heading into the weekend. As a result, the MSDH has delayed all elective surgeries to ease the stress placed on the state’s healthcare system. This will take effect Tuesday morning.
Last week, Governor Tate Reeves updated his executive order to include 61 of Mississippi’s 82 counties. The following counties are now under a mask mandate.
Adams, Alcorn, Amite, Attala, Bolivar, Calhoun, Carroll, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Clarke, Clay, Coahoma, Copiah, Covington, De Soto, Forrest, Franklin, Grenada, Harrison, Hinds, Holmes, Itawamba, Jackson, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Kemper, Lafayette, Lamar, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Lee, Leflore, Lincoln, Lowndes, Madison, Marion, Marshall, Monroe, Montgomery, Neshoba, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Panola, Pearl River, Perry, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Rankin, Scott, Simpson, Stone, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Union, Washington, Webster, Winston, Yalobusha, and Yazoo.
Statewide, indoor crowds are now limited to ten while outdoor gatherings are limited to 50 people or less.
Today, the first Americans received the COVID-19 vaccine in New York. This afternoon, State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs and State Epidemiologist Dr. Paul Byers are slated to become the first Mississippians to take the shots during a live press conference.
Around 25,000 total doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be delivered to Mississippi this week which will be administered to healthcare workers across the state.
