Mississippi residents affected by last February’s storms and flooding have until Tuesday, Nov. 19 to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for disaster assistance.

Survivors who have storm-damaged property in Clay, Humphreys, Issaquena, Lowndes, Monroe, Sharkey, Warren and Yazoo counties may be eligible for FEMA assistance to help cover disaster-related expenses, including rent, essential home repairs and other disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.

You can apply for disaster assistance by visiting DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362 (TTY 800-462-7585). The toll-free FEMA Helpline is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (ET) daily. Multi-lingual operators are available.

Homeowners and renters (as well as nonprofit organizations and businesses of all sizes) also have until Nov. 19 to apply for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).  Homeowners may be eligible for up to $200,000 in loans for home repair or replacement. Homeowners and renters can apply for up to $40,000 in loans to repair or replace personal property.

For more information about SBA low-interest disaster loans, call 800-659-2955 (TTY 800-877-8339) or visit sba.gov/disaster. Homeowners, renters and businesses may apply for disaster loans online, at DisasterLoan.SBA.gov.
