The COVID19 Case Total Continues to Rise at 579; 8 Deaths

According to the Mississippi State Health Department website, the total number of Coronavirus cases now stands at 579 – 94 new cases from yesterday.

A Tippah County and Harrison County death has brought the death number up to 8. No information about these deaths have been released yet.

The virus covers 68 of Mississippi’s 82 counties. DeSoto County having the highest number of cases at 63 and Hinds County next with 50. Neither of these counties have reported a COVID19 related death.

The deaths are from Hancock, Harrison, Holmes, Tippah, Tunica, Rankin, Webster, and Wilkinson counties.

A total of 3,139 individuals have been tested. The percentage of tests coming back positive is around 18.4%.

And the group with the highest number of people hospitalized due to the virus is in the 60-69 year age group:

On the other hand, 68% of cases in all are not being hospitalized. 59% of all cases in Mississippi are female and 41% are male.
